The Directors

The Board of Directors of the Solar Coop Limited currently has three members with a sound combination of skills and experience who have been working for more than a year to establish this project. At the next AGM they will stand down and offer themselves for re-election by the members. The Directors are not related to each other.

Stuart Major

Stuart is a founder member of The Solar Co-op having previously established a solar thermal and biomass boiler installation business. Stuart is a renewable energy expert. He was a founder member of Reading’s True Food Community Co-operative.

Cindy Barnes

Cindy is a founder member of The Solar Co-op and is co-founder of Transition Town Maidenhead. She has a strong business pedigree and is passionate about environmental and ethical ways of working. She is founder and director of Futurecurve, a business development agency. She is a clinical counsellor in Transactional Analysis and holds an MBA

Cindy’s experience covers a range of sectors across many functions from managing large scale unionised factories through to developing board level business strategy. She created a new business unit for a global technology company in one year that lead to sales of £83m and a future income stream of £309m. Cindy developed a leading-edge technical product for Panavision Group, which is still their most profitable product to date, and developed the first Customer Relationship Management solution for Capgemini, which won her an award from Intellect, the IT Industry Association. Cindy now sits on the Intellect main board.

Helen Blake

Helen is one of the most experienced Business Developers and Marketers operating in the Professional Services and B2B sectors today. She has spent over 20 years in senior positions in leading organisations including Accenture, Capgemini and KPMG, as well as creating growth strategies within new start-ups and mid-sized companies. A founder and director of Futurecurve, she is committed to helping develop sustainable and ethical businesses.

Kevin Frea

Kevin has had an interest and involvement in Co-operatives and solar power since visiting the Centre for Alternative Technology in 1977. He holds an M.Sc. In Human Ecology from the Centre for Human Ecology in Glasgow. He founded an early organic box scheme in Cardiff in 1990 and co-edits the ecological newsletter The Great Turning Times. Kevin originally trained as a Science teacher, then specialised in supporting children with special needs. He also established a multi million pound internet business in 1999. He currently combines work for the Solar Coop with executive coaching and facilitating Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects.
