The Solar Coop is supporting a number of Transition Town and community groups who are engaged in negotiations with owners of community buildings across the UK. Their aim is to fund the installation of solar photovoltaic systems through community share issues. We support projects in a number of ways. In Gloucester we brought together a number of people who were trying to get projects off the ground and launched the Gloucestershire Community Energy Co-op. We have been involved in finding a suitable building, building a website, preparing a share prospectus and setting up public meetings ready to launch their first community share issue in September.

We are working with other groups in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Lancashire and Hampshire to establish community energy co-operatives to also fund solar photovoltaic installations on community buildings. A number of groups are also exploring ways of extending this concept to private homes.
